It all started when…

Toronto born Lindsey Camara has always known music would be a big part of her life. Being the daughter of a talented producer and musician, Lindsey grew up in a very musical home. Being a Mezzo-Soprano with incredible range, Lindsey has the ability to sing with power when necessary, yet she can display a vulnerability that captivates the audience. From the ripe age of 6, Lindsey began singing and developing her passion for the arts, recording her first song at the age of 9. Harmony comes as second nature to Lindsey as a result of her extensive studio training recording intricate back-up vocals for other artists. From the age of 12, Lindsey began doing professional studio work, and has had the privilege to work along-side a wide range of artists, providing back-up vocals for countless CD productions.

Throughout her schooling, she was a regular choice for many lead solos within her schools’ vocal jazz ensemble, seizing every opportunity to perform. Lindsey had the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at the Hershey Centre, and went on to compete with her vocal jazz ensemble in the “Nationals”. She was selected to be part of a special vocal collaboration with the ‘Toronto Symphony Orchestra’ at the ‘Roy Thomson Hall’. Growing up, she also attended the prestigious “Performing Dance Arts”, taking part in their annual year-end extravaganza. At age 17, she was cast as the lead role of ‘Anna Leonowens’ in her high schools’ production of Rogers and Hammerstein’s “The King And I”. She was also the winner of the inaugural “Woodlands Idol” competition. Lindsey then went on to pursue further education at Sheridan College, studying ‘Performing Arts’ and graduating with Honors.

Being Luso-Canadian, Lindsey has always enjoyed sharing her talent within the Portuguese community. She has performed at many local venues, taking part in various community projects, including numerous fundraisers including ‘Canadian Cancer Society’, and ‘Children’s Make a Wish’ foundation. Lindsey was the second runner-up of the “Johnny Lombardi Portuguese-Canadian Singing Festival” hosted by CHIN RADIO. This led to an invitation to participate at the CHIN Winter Festival in the Dominican Republic, where she had the pleasure of performing with artists from all over the world.

Lindsey has had the honor of receiving various awards and recognition for her musical and dramatic endeavors. In 2014, Lindsey rekindled her love for music theatre and was blessed to be part of Brampton Music Theatre’s (BMT) production of “Les Misérables” at the beautiful Rose Theatre in Brampton. This opportunity led to being cast in the lead role for BMTs production of “EVITA”, in which she portrayed the character of ‘Eva Peron’, earning her a prestigious BRAVO and SHINE award for “a performance that was powerful, subtle and emotional”.   Since then, Lindsey has returned to the stage in many productions, being featured/cast in lead roles including “Jesus Christ Super Star”, “Beauty and the Beast” - (Babette), “Broadway at the Rose”, and “Arts Alive Festival” (featured. as Eliza Schuyler, performing along-side ‘Syndee Winters’ from the Broadway cast of “Hamilton” and “The Lion King”). Recently, Lindsey was honored to be cast in the role of ‘Esmeralda’ in “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” (2018), a role which proved to be her most challenging one yet, showcasing a wide range of her vocal and acting abilities, and focusing on such relevant themes as self-acceptance, compassion, and love for those who appear to be "other" - all themes that Lindsey has always been very passionate about. Most recently, she was cast as the vivacious ‘Tanya’ in “Mamma Mia” (Fall, 2019).

Although Lindsey has a wide range of musical tastes, she feels most at home singing in the style of Jazz and Bossa Nova. She has been featured as the lead singer in several Jazz/Cover bands (incl. ‘The Tavares Band’, ‘The Richard Whiteman Quartet’, ‘Uptown Jazz’, ‘The Michael Massaro Band’, and ‘Latin Pulse’), working with prestigious jazz musicians, and performing at weddings and corporate events across the GTA. Lindsey is currently the lead singer of her own Jazz Quartet, and has successfully released her debut Jazz/Bossa Nova album entitled “Speak Low”, which she co-produced. The album features her own core band, along with a few special appearances by guest musicians. Lindsey is thrilled to have achieved a nomination for a 2020 ‘International Portuguese Music Award’ (IPMA) for her rendition of “Chega De Saudade” - in the category of ‘World Music’.

Lindsey is very grateful for the continuous support she has received in all of her music and theatre endeavors, and is looking forward to her next musical adventure.
